New Delhi, May 24: The searing heatwave in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has killed 432 people so far. Eight more deaths were reported from Orissa Sunday, taking the toll there to 38, as vast swathes of the country reeled under the unrelenting summer heat.
There was no respite in sight with the India Meteorological department warning that severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue in the two worst-hit southern states, as also Orissa. In Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 43.5 degree celsius, a degree less than Saturday, while Palam recorded 46 degree celsius. Uttar Pradesh continued to reel under sweltering heat with mercury in Allahabad touching 47.7 degree Celsius.
The steel city of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand experienced the hottest day of the season at 44.8 degree C, four degree above normal. The toll in Andhra Pradesh since May 18 rose to 246, as 84 more people died Sunday. Prakasam district recorded the most number of deaths at 57, followed by Visakhapatnam(53). PTI
