This beautiful country was once burning due to civil war and has one of the highest murder rates in the world but despite this, people here always seem to carry smiles on their faces.
With a population of 1.66 crore, Guatemala ranks 27th in the World Happiness Index and is home to some bizarre traditions.
Marriage rules are also quite strange here. During weddings the mother of the groom breaks a white bell for the happiness and prosperity of the bride and groom.
Public buses here are called ‘Chicken Bus’, because in these buses, a large number of goats and chickens also travel along with the passengers.
The most bizarre rule is that people have to pay rent every month to keep the dead in the tomb. If any family whose member is in the grave and the family fails to pay the rent, then the dead is taken out of the grave and replaced by another body.
However, a graveyard has been built by the government outside every city where the dead, whose family members do not pay the rent on monthly basis, are buried.
