Sambalpur: The Hirakud Dam authorities opened five more sluice gates Saturday to release additional water as inflow into the reservoir increased amid persistent rain in Odisha.
With the latest opening, water is now being discharged through 13 gates. Eight gates had been opened earlier to manage the rising water level.
According to reports, the decision to increase the discharge was taken following a rise in inflow from the upper catchment areas.
Authorities are monitoring reservoir inflow, river levels and the situation in areas along the downstream stretches.
