Bhubaneswar: A man was stabbed to death allegedly by an absconding bootlegger Hadibandhu Behera alias Hadia, in front of a liquor shop at Palasuni Thursday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Sanjaya Behera alias Dhoba of GGP colony in Rasulgarh.
On the fateful day, when an inebriated Dhoba was buying wine from a local shop at Palasuni Munda Basti, a biker wearing a helmet came and stabbed him multiple times with a knife, leaving an unconscious Dhoba in a pool of blood. He was rushed to Capital hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Sources said Dhoba was a house painter by profession and also an accomplice of Hadia, who was a fugitive in criminal cases like bombing and arson. Dhoba acted as the right hand of Hadia and helped him in smuggling illegal liquor and brown sugar.
According to sources, the deceased’s family has alleged that around 8 pm Tuesday Hadia gave life threat to Dhoba over phone, and also warned of raping his wife. After examining the footages a CCTV installed near the wine shop police confirmed that Hadia himself was the helmet wearing culprit. Police started investigations into the matter after registering a case (240/18).
According to the police, Dhoba had allegedly hurled lewd comments on the daughters of Hadia. Driven by rage with unfathomable desire for revenge Hadia butchered his associate Dhoba.
This cold-blooded murder has raised several questions on the lackadaisical attitude of the Mancheswar police.
Notably, Hadia had earlier tried to kill his cousin February 23 and 28, but in vain. In his first attempt, Hadia set his cousin’s house on fire after locking his family from outside but his cousin managed to escape. He hurled more than half a dozen bombs at his cousin a few days later. He had also shot at his cousin sister on the same day. Hadia’s wife and another associate are in jail now.
The competence of Mancheswar police is best proved as a history-sheeter Hadia has been committing crimes without facing any resistance either from the cops or from the public.
Another instance which questions the competence of Mancheswar police is the gruesome murder of Unmaya at Kuakhai Bridge, a few months back. Failing to make a breakthrough, the Mancheswar police are mulling to term it as a case of suicide.
Earlier, police had arrested both Sanjay and Hadia on charges of bootlegging few months ago. However, later they got into a fight over some business disputes.
