Bhubaneswar: Hockey Orissa emerged champions of the VIIIth Sub-Junior Men’s National Hockey Championships after securing a narrow 2-1 win over Hockey Uttar Pradesh in a keenly contested final at Saifai in Uttar Pradesh, Sunday.
Subhash Barla (28th and 69th) scored both the goals for Orissa after Sahwaz Khan gave UP the lead in the 16th minute. This is also the fifth consecutive national title for Hockey Orissa.
BSNL victorious
Niranjan Behera’s (58 n o, 2/14) all-round show helped BSNL beat Orissa Reds by seven wickets in an E-league encounter here at the IMMT ground, Sunday.
Opting to field first, BSNL restricted Reds to 114. Aditya Arya (24) was the top scorer for Reds. Rashmiranjan Sahoo (3/14), Niranjan and S Satyananda (2/21) bowled well for BSNL. In reply, BSNL notched up the win with ease. Behera was adjudged man of the match for his match-winning knock.
Brief scores: Orissa Reds 114 (Aditya Arya 24; Rashmiranjan Sahoo 3/14, Niranjan Behera 2/13) lost to BSNL 115/3 (Niranjan Behera 58 n o) by seven wickets.

Kishore Club retained the Limika Memorial Basketball tournament for the second time after beating Kalinga Basketball Club 65-58 in a hard-fought final here, Sunday.
Soumyajit steals show
Soumyajit Samal scored seven goals as Giridharijew Vidyamandir (GV) demolished Brajanatha Badajena High School (BBHS) 8-3 in the final of the VIIIth Rajat Memorial Inter-School hockey tournament at the Orissa Police Ground in Cuttack, Sunday. Munna Singh struck the other goal for GV.
