Home guard assaults youth with wooden plank

Baripada: A day after an inspector in-charge at Dabugaon police station in Nabarangpur district misused his position and destroyed the crops of a farmer, a similar incident was reported from Mayurbhanj district Saturday.

The incident has come to the fore after a video went viral on social media. The video showed a home guard mercilessly beating a person with a wooden plank.

The home guard Upendra Behera belongs to Jharadiha police outpost near Bahalda Road railway station under Tiring police station.

The video showed that the home guard in a civil dress was thrashing the man inhumanly in the middle of a road in full view of the public.

It was learnt that the incident had taken place August 2. Someone had videographed the incident and uploaded it on social media.

It was learnt that Baya Sardar, a resident of Majhigaon, was standing near a hotel at Bahalda Road. Then, Upendra reached there with a wooden plank and started assaulting Baya with it. However, the locals stood as mute spectators. Upendra was found threatening the people who were trying to oppose it.

Baya had lodged a complaint against the home guard at Tiring police station August 3, but the police had taken no action against the accused.

Tiring IIC Chandra Mohan Singh said that he had not received any complaint. “I came to know about the incident Saturday,” he added.

He also said that only SP can take action against the home guard.  PNN
