Bhubaneswar: DAV, Pokhariput sailed into the quarterfinals of the Unilight Cup Inter-School football tournament at the Unit-VI High School Ground here, Tuesday.
DAV rode on a magnificent hat-trick by Priyam Patnaik, his second in two matches, to thrash SAI International School 4-1. Ayush Mishra was the other goal scorer for the winning side. Ashish Dando scored the consolation goal for SAI International.
In the other game on the day, BJEM School, BJB Nagar began their campaign with a dominating 7-0 rout over BJEM School, Satyabhamapur.
Smruti Swagat Mohanty struck thrice, the third hat-trick of the tournament, while Soumesh Mohanty hit the target twice. Sourav Pal and Sambit Mohapatra scored one apiece to complete the rout.
New responsibilities
One of the successful sports organisers in Odisha, Sahadev Rout has been appointed as secretary general of Futnet Federation of India, senior vice-president of the Footvolley Federation of India and executive secretary of the All India Football Tennis Association, the Odisha State Footvolley Association announced through a release, Tuesday. The decision was taken during a joint annual meeting of these three national bodies, which was conducted at a city hotel in New Delhi, August 22.

In a bid to spot hidden talents in Cuttack, the SR Chess Centre will organise the VIIIth Kulamani Tripathy Memorial All Odisha School Chess Championships at the East Coast Railway Institute in Cuttack, September 8-10. The tournament will carry a total prize money of Rs 10,000.
