Bhubaneswar: A cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday cleared a scheme to provide more financial incentives to doctors, so as to attract them to the four new medical colleges, including the two in the KBK and KBK Plus region. The new medical colleges and hospitals are at Balangir, Koraput, Baripada and Balasore.
Health minister Pratap Jena told the media that the four new medical colleges have been divided into two zones. Those in KBK and KBK Plus areas – Koraput and Bolangir medical MCHs – have been catogorised as Zone-1 while others situated at least 100km away from the existing government medical colleges established prior to 2017 – Baripada and Balasore — have been classified as Zone-II.
The academic session in Baripada and Koraput medical colleges has already commenced, while admissions to medical courses for Bolangir and Balasore will begin from the 2018-19 academic year.
