Bhubaneswar: The India Post (Odisha Circle) Monday released a corporate stamp on stroke, a disease, to mark the World Stroke Day and work towards creating awareness on the health hazard.
Postmaster General of Odisha Santosh Kumar Kamila released the corporate stamp amid presence of doctors specialising on the subject. Kamila said that the stamps would be of Rs 5 denominations and would be available in the city soon.
“Popularising the preventive measures can help us tackle the disease. This stamp is as good as other commemorative stamps and will help in creating awareness. The whole nation is likely to be benefited from this,” said Kamila.
Kamila told Orissa POST that these stamps are being released in Bangalore office and also at same time at different regions including Bhubaneswar. He explained that as per norms the funding of corporate stamps is done by corporate bodies. The stamp has been funded by the Kalinga Hospital in an attempt to create awareness on the aimlment.
Dr Amitabh Rath, Senior Consultant Neurologist, said, “Brain stroke was earlier a thing for the elders but due to lifestyle changes it is also affecting the younger generation. We need awareness among people to ensure that critical health hazards are minimized.”
Dr Alok Lodh, Chief Executive of the BR Kalinga Hospital said, “The launch of the corporate ‘my stamp’ at Kalinga Hospital is in line with our philosophy to think beyond the horizon by understanding the need of the hour.”

A stroke refers to a lack of blood supply to parts of the brain, causing brain cells to die or leading to extensive damage to the cells. It can affect mobility and speech, among other aspects. Strokes are responsible for more deaths annually than those attributed to AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined and yet it remains a silent epidemic.
