Bhubaneswar, Oct 7: The fifth edition of Indian surf festival (ISF) will be taking place November 12 this year. Its venue, same as before, is Ramchandi beach that is very close to Puri. The ‘surfer yogis’ will surf for the cause ‘Earth positive and carbon negative’ in the current installment. This event was being organised by a group who like to call themselves ‘Surfing Yogis’.

“The three areas in which we feel we can make the greatest changes are plastic, water and energy,” said the organizer Sanjay Samanta. Artists, musicians and photographers besides the professional surfers are going to attend the three-day event.

To promote the event and create awareness for their cause, the organisers are conducting a ‘get-together’ programme October 9 at Hotel ChillUmmm in Bhubaneswar. Some singers of repute are expected to attend the meet.

The theme from the last year’s programme ‘Girl Power’ will also impact the current edition. A workshop would be conducted a couple of weeks before the surfing festival kicks off where the local community would interact with experts of the sport of surfing.

The last edition of the fest was conducted February, 2015. The event was a grand success as it saw a massive participation turnout.

Amidst all activities, the festival promises to remain committed to its motto for better environment by launching community afforestation programme and cleaning the local beach as part of its celebration. Visual artistes will be among the volunteers who would not only take part in the cleaning process, but also use the garbage collected for their art.

The festival will have different competitions: ‘India surf championship’, ‘ISF skate cup’ and ‘stand-up paddle’ among others. A variety of learning sessions and workshops will be provided to the camping residents.
