Bhubaneswar: Low-cost airline IndiGo is set to launch its direct flight to Ahmedabad from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar. The BPIA authorities announced the direct flight between Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad Thursday.
IndiGo will start direct flight operations between Bhubaneswar and Ahmedabad within few days, informed BPIA Director Suresh Chandra Hota. “We have also urged two airlines — IndiGo and AirAsia — for flight operations between Bhubaneswar and Pune also,” he said.
Similarly, another daily flight from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata will be operated by IndiGo from August 1.
The IndiGo flight from Kolkata will reach Bhubaneswar at 12.20 am. The flight will take off for Kolkata from Bhubaneswar at 5.25 am on daily basis.
Currently, the direct flights are operated from Bhubaneswar to Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam and Chennai.
Meanwhile, the airport authorities are planning to reintroduce flights from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok after Air India suspended its operations on the route from Monday.
In view of suspension of Air India flight that would affect tourism sector in Odisha, the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) has written a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation requesting to reintroduce direct flight service from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok, source said.
