Bhawanipatna: Authorities of Indravati Hydro Electric Project here in Kalahandi district swung into action and started repair work of tunnel no-4 of the dam following leakage of water Sunday.
The incident came to light after a massive flow of water was noticed outside the tunnel in the morning. Locals apprehended the leakage would hamper power generation.
However, dam authorities claimed that water from the other three tunnels would be sufficient to generate power. They said tunnel no-4 had been closed and repair work was under way.
The Indravati hydro-power channel receives water through four tunnels of the reservoir. The maximum generation capacity of the hydro-power unit is 600 MW.
“The repair work is going on and the tunnel will be opened after work is completed,” an official said assuring power generation will not be hampered.
