Malkangiri: In a gruesome incident, a man under the influence of alcohol Thursday night killed his wife as she opposed his drinking habits. His two minor daughters also sustained critical injuries in an attempt to save their mother.
The incident took place in Kurkundi village of Bhejangiwada panchayat under Balimela police limits in Malkangiri district.
According to sources, Padia Padiami came home in an inebriated state in the evening and asked his wife Nande to take a few pegs of liquor to which she refused. Infuriated over her refusal, Padia whipped out a sharp-edged weapon and attacked her. He also attacked his two daughters – Rita and Pinki – when they tried to overpower him.
Hearing the screams of the children, neighbours rushed to the spot and overpowered Padia. Nande died on the way while being taken with her two daughters to Kalimela CHC. The children were shifted to the district headquarters hospital for better treatment.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that accused Padia managed to flee even as the villagers tied his hands to hand him over to the police. PNN
