IPL betting racket busted, 3 held

Bolangir: Acting on a tip-off, a special squad of Bolangir police busted an IPL betting racket and arrested three persons besides seizing Rs 11.17 lakh during a raid at a gambling den in Kantabanji town here, police said Friday.

The police also seized 11 mobile phones, four laptops, three calculators, seven bank passbooks, six ATM cards, five cheque books, eight pens, a diary and other documents during the raid.

This was stated by SP K Siba Subramani at a press meet held at the district police headquarters.

The accused were identified as Pradip Jain alias Papu, his accomplice Debendra Behera and Anand Kumar Mohanty alias Landu. Five others managed to escape the police dragnet. A case was registered in this connection and the accused were produced in a court.

A special squad was formed following the SP’s direction and the gambling den was raided after intelligence inputs alerted the police about the racket.
