Bhubaneswar: Irked by official apathy and negligence on the part of All Orissa Bodybuilding Association (AOBA), ace bodybuilder Janmejeya Mohanty has decided to leave the state. “I have decided to represent West Bengal Bodybuilding Welfare Association (WBWA) henceforth,” he stated in a press conference here Friday.
Blaming ‘corrupt’ officials Janmejeya stated that he had no option but to look elsewhere to continue with his career. “They (AOBA officials) ask for money to give us the permission to participate in national and international competitions. People who have never won the Mr India title are allowed to take part in world meets,” he informed.
“I have represented the state for 14 years and brought many laurels. But I have been continuously neglected. I am not even informed about tournaments. I can’t take this anymore… enough is enough,” a visibly-dejected Janmejeya added.
Janmejeya also asserted that if the present trend continues, the sport of bodybuilding will never develop in Orissa. “I am just one of the examples of official apathy. There are many others who are not being able to express themselves,” he pointed out.
Janmejeya will depart Saturday to take part in the IVth NABBA Mr India National Body Building and Fitness Championships at Gurgaon, December 17-18. The competition will also be a trial for the forthcoming Mr World Meet in Russia in June. “I am quite confident to perform well in the national meet and qualify for the world meet,” Janmejeya concluded.
