Locals came out on the road in protest against the rape and demanded strong action against the accused
Bhubaneswar: Doctors at Capital Hospital, where the nine-year-old Jatni rape victim is being treated, said Friday that her condition is stable. A three-member team of doctors has been formed at the hospital to look after her, said hospital sources.
“After all necessary examinations conducted on her, the girl’s condition is found to be stable now. She is under medical supervision,” said Capital Hospital director Biswabhusan Patnaik. Chairperson of the State Commission for Women (SCW) Lopamudra Buxipatra, who visited the hospital and inquired into the victim’s condition, demanded early filing of chargesheet in this case and a fast trial. She also said the government would be requested to grant compensation to the victim.
Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) women’s wing president Fouzia Khan also visited the hospital and condemned the incident.
The locals of Jatni Friday came out on the road in protest against the rape and demanded strong action against the accused, who has a long criminal record. The protesters also demanded a special women police station in Khurda and Jatni. Jatni police station was gheraoed by women protestors who also burnt tyres near the police station. Local youths also joined the protests and shouted slogans against police. The main gate of the police station was locked and a police force was deployed near it to control the situation. PNN
