Cuttack, Nov 19: Jay Durga Club and Orissa Police registered victories in their respective matches of the FAO first division football league played here Thursday at the Barabati Stadium.
Jay Durga Club scraped past Sunshine Club 1-0 while Orissa Police defeated Morning Club by an impressive 3-1 margin.
In the first match played on the day, Mahesh Sahoo got the all-important winning goal for Jay Durga Club in the 60th minute. Both sides had a number of opportunities, but failed to capitalise on the chances that came their way.
In the other match, Orissa Police impressed with their attacking football. Prasant Naik emerged hero for the winners scoring two goals (24th and 78th minutes) while the other goal was scored by Maheshwat Sethi.
It must be stated that Morning Club fought well. After Prasant had given Orissa Police the lead in the 24th minute, Morning Club were not ready to throw in the towel. They came back strongly and equalised in the 77th minute through Laxman Bindhani.
However, defensive errors saw Morning Club concede two goals in the next three minutes to lose the game.
