Bhubaneswar: With the onset of winter in the state, the Health Department in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has decided to launch a special campaign for the prevention of Japanese encephalitis (JE) in the city.
“We have decided to start vaccination drive from November 27 to prevent the spread of JE in the city. The campaign will cover above two lakh children from 1 year to 15 years,” said a top official of BMC.
Top officials of the health and civic body held a discussion on this matter Thursday. The meeting was attended by BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
It has been decided that necessary steps would be taken to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases, especially among those in the vulnerable group like children.
Officials have decided to use the service of anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and health workers for the sensitisation drive. In fact, students of government schools, Sisu Mandir, Madrasas, play schools and others will be vaccinated. Social organizations, NGOs and Lions Club will support the drive for the wider interest of the health of citizens, sources said.
