Balisankara: An Odia youth was trampled to death by an elephant on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Santosh Gahir (28) of Kendudiha village under Kinjirikela police limits of Sundargarh district.
According to reports, Santosh had gone to Brahmanmara village in the neighbouring state to perform Kirtan as part of the Ganesh Puja celebrations. Sources said, the incident occurred while he was on his way back home.
He came face to face with the jumbo that attacked him. The jumbo then trampled Gahir after he fell down while trying to run for his life.
On receipt of information, Chhatisgarh police reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy.
The family members of Santosh demanded compensation from the Chhattisgarh Forest Department.
