Bhubaneswar: Continuing its tirade against the state government for the latter’s alleged dilly-dallying tact in investigation into the infamous Junagarh gangrape case, the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday wanted the call records of prime accused Lalindra Sabar be tracked.
Addressing the media here, party spokesperson Lekhashree Samantsinghar levelled fresh charges against the state government of interfering with fair probe. She said, “The Junagarh rape accused had called the state’s MoS, Home. I urge the DGP to ensure that the call records of the accused, Lalindra Sabar, be tracked to find out whom all he had called after the infamous case of gangrape.”
The party said that ‘the public should know this’. On September 27, the BJD held a press conference in Junagarh and talked about giving justice to the rape victim. However, the BJP said just minutes before the press conference, some of the people close to the MoS, Home sat with the inspector in-charge (IIC) of the police station raising doubts over their intention. “The private secretary of the minister was also among them. Now, police need to clarify whether they had gone to the police station and divulge details of the subject matter of discussion. I suspect immense political pressure is exerted to suppress the case. The need of the hour is that police investigate the case properly and come out with facts/details,” she told reporters.
The party requested the state government to rise above petty politics and give justice to the victim. “Some suspicious activities ensued after the case. The police and the state government need to clarify on the issue to allay the apprehensions of use of government influence,” she said.
