Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has given a 30-day time limit to licensed Kalyan Mandaps in the Silver City here to comply with the guidelines laid down by the court with regard to basic infrastructure.
A division bench of Chief Justice KS Jhaveri and Justice KR Mohapatra has directed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to serve fresh notices in this regard on the licence holders of Kalyan Mandaps. The next hearing on the case has been posted to April 29.
The HC has made it clear that it would initiate action against the licence holders if they fail to comply with the guidelines.
Acting upon an earlier order, the CMC Wednesday submitted an affidavit to the HC and claimed that it has issued licences to 73 Kalyan Mandaps out of the total 180 after looking into the infrastructure issues.
However, amicus curiae Arun Kumar Buddhia informed the HC that the license holders of 73 Kalyan Mandaps have failed to comply with the guidelines laid down by the court.
It is worth mentioning here that the HC had framed a set of guidelines for issuance of licenses to Kalyan Mandaps by the CMC.
The HC had directed the CMC to look into the infrastructure of Kalyan Mandaps, including parking facility and garbage disposal system, before issuing the licenses.
However, the amicus curiae had informed the court that many licensed Kalyan Mandaps are to have the required infrastructure.
