Nagpur: Karnataka defeated Mumbai by an innings and 20 runs with more than a day to spare to enter the Ranji Trophy semifinals. Karnataka, who took a huge 397-run first innings lead over Mumbai, bowled out the 41-time champions for 377 in 114.5 overs in the second innings here at the VCA Stadium.
Surya Kumar Yadav (108, 180b, 16×4, 1×6) was the only one to offer some resistance and delay the inevitable. He was to a certain extent helped by Akash Parkar (65, 186b, 11×4) also batted well and put on 98 runs for the fourth wicket. However, once Yadav was run out in the pre-lunch session, the Mumbai innings started to disintegrate rapidly.
Parkar also added 52 runs with Siddhesh Lad for the fifth wicket before being dismissed by off-spinner Krishnappa Gowtham (6/104). Karnataka skipper R Vinay Kumar dismissed Lad and rival counterpart Aditya Tare (0) after which Gowtham scythed through the lower-order.
