Keonjhar: The Keonjhar Town police Monday arrested Raghunath Panda, the prime accused in the alleged bomb attack on Keonjhar Sadar MLA Mohan Charan Majhi’s car October 10.
It is pertinent to mention here that five persons were earlier arrested in this regard. The five have been identified as Pratap Rout, Bidyadhar Parida alias Buta, Manmohan Das alias Muna, Sarat Chandra Jena alias Mitua and Sikhul Sheikh.
BJP legislator Majhi had a narrow escape when the miscreants hurled bombs at his car. Town police had seized two crude bombs and a motorcycle. The five were booked under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Arms Act.
Two persons came close to Majhi’s car riding a motorcycle and consecutively hurled two bombs at the vehicle. The MLA was going to a place near Mandua in Keonjhar after attending a public meeting.
“I reached the meeting venue at around 11.00am and the miscreants hurled bombs at my car at around 11:50am. After hurling a bomb, the miscreants fled from the spot. However, they returned again just after a few minutes and hurled the second one,” the MLA had said.
PSO of the legislator Bidyadhar Mahanta chased the miscreants to nab them, but in vain as the road was narrow. They drove the motorcycle towards railway station and fled, Majhi had informed.
