Bhubaneswar, Sept 26: Defending champions KISS retained the Inter-School MCL Cup football title after scraping past Sainik School 3-1 in the final at the Unit-VI HS Ground here Saturday.
KISS was clearly the dominant team throughout the match. Dilip Murmu opened the account for KISS as early as the fifth minute. He went on to double the lead in the 15th minute. Ashok Jena of Sainik School got one back in the 27th minute and both the teams went into the lemon break with the score card reading 2-1 in favour of KISS.
After the change of ends, KISS continued with their aggressive surge and Sana Marando found the back of the net in the 44th minute. However Sainik School players have to blame themselves for the loss as they squandered several opportunities that came on their way.
Sana Marandi, Sunil Murmu and Dillip Murmu of the champion team received the man of the final, best midfielder and man of the tournament awards respectively. Santosh Behera of the runners- up team received the best defender and Avijit Mohanty of Vikash Residential School bagged the best goalkeeper awards.
MCL director Purna Chandra Panigrahi joined as the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
Bir Birsa win
Bir Birsa Club blanked hapless Chandrasekharpur Athletic Association(CAA) 3-0 in a Group A match of the Gati Krushna Memorial football tournament at the Unit I Boys’ HS Ground here Saturday. Bijay opened the account in the 24th minute. Karan Murmu scored a brace in the 42nd and 54th minutes respectively through field goals. CAA players tried their best but could not open their account.
Bir Birsa players were totally dominant in the field and did not give the opposition an inch to progress. Such was their dominance in the field that the opposition players were reduced to mere spectators and were totally clueless about their own move.
