Bhubaneswar: Koraput Coffee, a speciality Arabica grown by tribal farmers in Koraput district, is set to get a global showcase with more than 1,500 packets of its Tiger Blend being sent to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit 2026. The consignment was dispatched by the Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd (TDCCOL), Koraput, following a request from the Centre, TDCCOL Branch Manager Rakesh Biswal said.
He said the order was prepared and dispatched at short notice with the support of coffee farmers and workers at the district’s coffee packaging plant. Promoted as Koraput Coffee, the 100 per cent Arabica, shade-grown coffee has gained acceptance in the domestic market, including through e-commerce platforms, for its flavour and organic appeal.
Coffee is cultivated by tribal farmers across several blocks of Koraput, including Laxmipur, Kashipur, Dasmantpur, Nandpur, Lamtaput, Koraput and Pottangi. Situated at around 3,000 feet above sea level, Koraput offers favourable conditions for coffee cultivation, with its cool climate and rainfall.
The state government is promoting coffee cultivation in the district, with the ST and SC Development Department working on plans to expand the area under the crop as a means of strengthening tribal livelihoods. The BRICS exposure is expected to give Koraput Coffee greater visibility as Odisha seeks to position its indigenous Arabica in the speciality coffee market.
