Jajpur: A controversy has broken out over admission of students under the Collector’s quota in the two Kendriya Vidyalayas – one at Vyasanagar and another at Jajpur Town — in this district.
In the current academic session, the seats under the Collector’s quota have been left vacant amid the allegation that KV authorities are not paying attention to the Collector’s order, a report said.
Last year, some seats under this quota had been filled up even though the deadline had lapsed. However, this year, the KV authorities have ignored the recommendations of the Collector.
The power of the Collector as chairperson of the KVs has shrunk and many see the attitude of the KV authorities as vengeful. As his order has not been carried out, Collector Ranjan Kumar Das has resigned from the post of Chairperson of KVs in April.
A top brass of the KVs in Bhubaneswar met the Collector and tried to end the impasse in May. Later, the Collector went on leave for about a month due to illness. During that time, his quota seats were left unfilled.
The Collector reminded the KV authorities about the admission under his quota July 3. His notice was rejected Monday.
It may be noted that the new building of Jajpur KV was inaugurated by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in April. The MP, MLAs and the Collector were invited to the inauguration ceremony, but none turned up. Then the Collector had resigned from the post of KV chairman, leading to bottlenecks in the admission process. The KV authorities face problems in dispensing salaries to staff.
Realising the problem, the KV authorities had sought to end the impasse and had assured the Collector that his order will be obeyed, but it was not done. Political intervention is said to be the reason behind the stalemate.
Collector Das said, “The KV authorities had been asked to fill up quota seats, but it is not clear why the seats were not filled.”
On the other hand, Prafulla Kumar Kar, Principal of KV Jajpur Road, said, “As per guidelines, the deadline for admission was April 16. By that time the seats under the MP and the Collector’s quota are filled up. No order is executed after expiry of the deadline.”
