Bhubaneswar, April 18: The 2014-15 academic session has come to an end, but the state government could not distribute free laptops to meritorious Plus II students.
The government had launched the free laptop programme in 2013 and distributed 15, 235 laptops last year to Plus II students on the basis of their class X examination marks.
This academic year, the higher education department has identified 15,203 meritorious students, who performed exceedingly well in the last 10th board examination, said an official of higher education department.
The laptops will be distributed under the Biju Yuva Sashaktikaran Yojana.
The higher education department had asked the Orissa computer application centre (OCAC) to procure laptops and supply them to respective district nodal centres in December last year, but it has not procured the laptops so far.
“The OCAC has awarded the tender to procure laptops. I hope within a month, the laptops will be distributed,” said an official.
