Autos, IDs
Sir: Several letters have already been published about the reckless ways of auto drivers in the capital. It is common knowledge that most times, autorickshaws in the city violate traffic norms. They park their vehicles anywhere and create inconvenience to the public and the motorists coming from behind. There was a time when all autos carried with it the number and driver’s personal ID, as a security measure. But, due to official negligence and lack of supervision, a good practice is no more being followed by many auto drivers. As fares are not monitored by the government from time to time, drivers are charging rates based on their whims. In metros, vehicles numbers are written on all four sides of the vehicle to help passengers, but in Bhubaneswar this practice is not followed. The starting of Pink Autos has turned out to be a major failure. The government should adopt suitable measures to make transportation both economic and safe. The Railway Station Square and Master Canteen side are largely grabbed by stray autos, affecting normal traffic. The government is urged to deploy adequate number of Home Guards to oversee autorickshaw functioning in the city. Auto drivers should be given proper training before they start the operations.

BJP, AAP
Sir: Delhi became a state without statehood. The Chief Minister of Delhi appears to have been given powers equal to that of a City Mayor. A government without any power is sitting pretty on a big city like Delhi, and this looks ludicrous. This is clearly a worse case scenario. Instead, let there be central rule in Delhi, and this will save both elected representatives as also the people of Delhi of a major embarrassment. If the Centre wants things that way, let there be no political party and let there be only a rule by the Lt Governor at the behest of the Centre. Apparently, the whole mess is being created and the AAP government headed by Arvind Kejriwal is being made a laughing stock with a view to undoing the people’s will reflected in the last assembly polls, and bringing BJP to power in Delhi through the backdoor. This is an unacceptable scenario.
