Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda district administration Tuesday facilitated the safe reunion of Vijayabai Yadav, a destitute woman, with her family in Maharashtra, nearly three years after she was rescued in a distressed condition by the district police.
According to officials, Yadav had been living at a district shelter home operated by People’s Forum and Vikas, a voluntary organisation, under the supervision of the district social security officer (DSSO) after her rescue. She had remained there for the past three years as efforts continued to trace her family.
Acting on the instructions of Jharsuguda Collector Kunal Motiram Chavan, district authorities contacted her family members in Maharashtra and arranged for her safe handover. Before her departure, the Jharsuguda district administration accorded her a respectful farewell. Officials said the effort reflects the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of senior citizens and stands as an example for similar interventions in the future.
