Paralakhemundi: In a shocking incident, a man reportedly broke the legs of a woman accusing her of encouraging a relationship between her son and his daughter. The woman allegedly hailed form a socially lower echelon. The incident was witnessed at Naraharipur village under Gurandi police limits in Gajapati district. The accused was identified as S Someswar Rao (58), father of the girl, while the victim was identified as M Chinama, mother of the boy.
According to sources, M Pentaya (23), a Sikhsya Sahayak, son of Ramlingam and M Chinama was in a relationship with a girl of the same village. However, Rao objected to the relationship as Pentaya belonged to a lower caste. However, Pentaya dared Rao and was adamant to marry the girl. The two eloped to Andhra Pradesh and married in a temple.
Later, they went to Hyderabad and married with the help of Arya Samaj. They again returned to the village and resided in a house. However, Rao was against the marriage and threatened them with dire consequences. He accused Pentaya’s parents of supporting the marriage and plotted a plan to take revenge on them.
In a fit of rage, he attacked M Chinama and her husband Ramlingam with a lathi while they were returning home from work. He broke both the legs of Chinama and also beat up Ramlingam with the lathi.
On hearing their screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued and admitted them to a local hospital. They were later shifted to Parlakhemundi district headquarters hospital as their condition worsened.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Meanwhile, the accused was at large, police said. PNN
