Basudevpur: A 41-year-old man was beaten to death on suspicion of being a child lifter in the Kashia marine police station area under Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district, police said Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sukul Bindhani of Manjuri village under Khunta police limits in Mayurbhanj district.
As per reports, Bindhani was mentally unstable and addicted to intoxicants. He was reportedly roaming in Kashia area Saturday when locals suspected him of child lifting. The accused, identified as Shyamsundar Jena of Chandimal village in Sanakrushnapur panchayat under this block, was arrested Sunday.
According to a complaint filed Sunday by the deceased’s nephew, Rabindra Nath Mandal of Talachua Marine police limits, Sukul was assaulted by Jena and left unconscious Saturday afternoon, Kashia Marine police IIC Kuni Besra said. Sukul was rushed to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.

On being informed, police seized the body lying in front of a shop near Chandimal Bazar on Basudevpur –Dhamra road and kept the body at Basudevpur hospital for identification.
Based on the complaint, Inspector Besra of Kashia Marine police station registered a murder case, got the body identified as family members (34/26) and arrested the accused Sunday. The accused will be produced in the court Monday, police said.
