Chandbali: In a shocking incident, a biker got electrocuted when an 11KV live electric wire snapped on him on the Bhadrak-Chandbali road near Kakharudiha (Panikoili Chhak) Monday morning.
The pillion rider also suffered injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Shantanu Patra (34) of Panchutikri village near Bansada in Bhadrak district. A carpenter by profession, Shantanu had a shop near Chandbali cinema hall.
Sources said Shantanu was going from Chandbali to Bhadrak on his bike with an assistant for some work at around 5 am.
When they were crossing Panikoili chhak, the 11KV electric wire got snapped and fell over them, Shantanu died on the spot.
The incident has sparked tension in the area as hundreds of locals staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.
They kept the body on the road at Panikoili chhak on Bhadrak-Chandbali, bringing the traffic to a grinding halt.
After the incident, the power supply has been stopped in the locality.
On getting information, police reached the spot and have been trying to pacify the agitators. However, the road blockade has not been lifted till the filing of this report.
