Man hacked to death over land dispute

Bangomunda: A man was hacked to death by his neighbour at Dangia village under this police limits in Bolangir district over a land dispute Sunday.

The deceased Dhaniram Podh, son of Jagdish Podh, was killed by Tikerath Podh in the village.  Police arrested Tikerath and launched a manhunt to nab his absconding family members Bhanumati, Balkishan, Sarojini, Jaijawan and Rukmani in this connection.  Two separate complaints have been filed in the police station.

Police said the dispute between the two families was related to a piece of land which was a gift to the accused family by Dhaniram’s grandfather when one of the family members of Tikerath used to work as a labourer in the house of the latter.

The land was used by the accused family to dump cow dung for preparing compost which often led to severe fights between the two families.  The incident occurred when the two family members again had a fight when Dhaniram stepped outside to go somewhere.  Enraged, Tikerath and his family members attacked Dhaniram and hacked him with an axe.

Family members rescued Dhaniram in a critical condition and rushed him to the nearby Titlagarh Hospital, the District Headquarters Hospital in Bolangir, and finally to the VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.
