Sambalpur/Jamankira: A woman was killed and her husband was in critical condition after the couple was hacked with an axe by a fellow villager over previous enmity Thursday night at Patarphedi village near Jamankira in Samblapur district.
The deceased was identified as Jema Mahanand (55) and her husband Alekh Mahanand (60) was under treatment at the district hospital in Sambalpur.
The accused was identified as Prakash Dhanagunda.
After getting information, a police team reached the village and arrested Prakash.
The preliminary investigation of police revealed that the murder was a fallout of previous enmity.
According to police, Prakash and Jema broke out in a fight over some issue Thursday night. In a fit of rage, Prakash took an axe from his house and attacked Jema. He chased her and hacked her to death.
When her husband tried to save her, the accused attacked Alekh as well.
A case of murder was registered and the body was seized and sent for post-mortem.
