Jharsuguda: Police Wednesday arrested a man on the charge of circulating obscene videos of a college girl after she rejected his marriage proposal.
The accused was identified as Narayan Patel (28) of Samasinha under Kolabira police limits here in this district. Police seized his mobile phone and some electronic devices from his possession.
According to sources, the victim, a college student of Jharsuguda, was a friend of Patel’s niece who was also a student of the same college.
Most of the time, Patel used to drop his niece at her college and that’s when he befriended the girl. After initial meetings, he proposed to the girl.
However, he was a married man, a fact he had concealed from the girl. Unaware of his marital status, the girl developed a relationship with him. Taking advantage, Patel outraged her modesty on several occasions.
He also recorded their private moments on his mobile phone. Meanwhile, the girl came to know about Patel’s marriage through some friends. Being cheated, the girl began to distance herself from Patel.
However, Patel blackmailed her with the obscene pictures and forced her for physical intimacy. When the girl objected, he circulated the videos and pictures of the girl within his circle of friends that soon went viral.
The girl came to know of the matter after a friend of her informed about the viral video. The girl then narrated her ordeal to her parents who lodged a written complaint against Patel with the police.
Acting on the complaint, police made the arrest. A case was registered under IT Act and Patel was produced in court, police said. They added while further investigation is on steps are being taken to delete the circulated videos from the social media platform.
