Soro: A youth was arrested on the charge of gangrape on a Class IX minor girl with his two aides at Kasabajaipur village near Soro police limits in Balasore district.
The incident occurred when the girl was returning home from tuition Monday evening.
The matter came to the fore after the girl was rescued by some locals. Her family members later filed a complaint Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Umashankar Chaudhary, a resident from the same village.
According to the complaint, the accused Chaudhary was consuming alcohol along with two of his aides near the village road when they spotted the girl. The three then overpowered the girl and dragged her to a nearby bush where they committed the heinous crime.
Meanwhile, some commuters heard the screams of the girl and rushed to the spot. They rescued the girl after overpowering Chaudhary, while the other two managed to escape.
The angry locals detained Chaudhary and thrashed him before handing over to the police.
A case was registered and the police have forwarded the accused to court Tuesday morning after conducting the medical examination of him and the victim.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to nab the two others.
