K. Nuagaon: Police Monday arrested a man on the charge of raping his niece at Kamasingh village under this police limits in Kandhamal district. He was identified as Khaleswar Pradhan.
According to reports, the accused threatened the girl while she was returning home after taking bath in a river nearby the village June 24.
In a bid to save her life, the victim ran towards the river again and fell unconscious after the man chased h er and hit her with the sharp-edged weapon.
After the girl fainted, Pradhan outraged her modesty and disappeared from the scene.
A villager on the way to the river spotted the girl and brought her home and was then admitted to Baliguda sub-divisional hospital.
After learning about the incident from her daughter, the victim’s mother mustered courage and lodged a complaint with K. Nuagaon police Monday after 8 days to the incident.
Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested and further investigations are on, police said.
