Man killed, wife critically injured over goat dispute

Puri: A man died and his wife sustained critical injuries after they were attacked by members of another family in Patasundarpur village under Astaranga block in Puri district Friday. The dispute between the two families took place over the injury of a goat. The deceased has been identified as Akshay Das and his wife Kanak. She is presently battling for life at the Astaranga Community Health Centre (CHC).

According to a source, Kanak was tending to her goats when Sarat Das’s son Kalia hit one of the animals accidently with his bike. Kanak had an altercation with Kalia and soon it snowballed into a clash.

Kalia, Sarat and four others attacked Kanak and her husband Akshay with sharp weapons. The two suffered grievous injuries and lay in a pool of blood.

Other villagers rescued Akshay and his wife and rushed them to Astaranga CHC. However, Akshay was pronounced dead on arrival.

On being informed, police reached the CHC and recovered the body for post-mortem. A detailed investigation is underway, it was learnt. No arrests have taken place at the time of filing this report.
