Belpahar:Fathers-in-law, it would seem, are now an endangered species. Fifty-year-old Durga Samad of Mohanpur village under this police limits in Jharsuguda district was fatally pushed into the family well by his son-in-law over a petty issue Monday, police said.
Cops fished out the body the next day and sent it for post-mortem.
According to police, Samad arranged a small gathering in his house Sunday night. He had invited his daughter and son-in-law, among others. For some reason, the couple began quarrelling during the feast. When Samad intervened, the accused got furious, moved him away, and pushed him into a well in the house’s courtyard. Samad couldn’t save himself and drowned in the well.
None of the family members was aware as to what had happened. They searched for the man in the morning and later spotted the body in the well. Based on a complaint by Samad’s son, police registered a case and detained the accused.
