Sonepur: A man was allegedly shot by his son Sunday for taking the side of his daughter-in-law during a family feud. The incident took place at Chindajuri village under Dunguripali block in Subarnapur district.
According to a source, the victim Gangajal Meher was critically injured after his son Bikram Meher opened fire at him. He was taken to Dunguripali Community Health Center (CHC) for treatment. After his condition worsened, he was shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research.
Accused Bikram Meher had a verbal duel with his wife over some issue. His father, Gangajal tried to conciliate the couple. He asked his son to harm him instead of his daughter-in-law, the source added.
Afterwards, Bikram who was in an inebriated state, tried to gun down his wife in a fit of rage. However, Gangajal came in his way and got injured as the bullet hit him.
Dunguripali police have launched an investigation into the incident.
