Angul: A man sustained serious injuries after he had been thrashed by angry locals on suspicion of being a child lifter at Lingaraj Munda slum near Koliari area in this district late Sunday night.
The incident took place at around 8 pm, sources said.
When a group of unidentified men on a Bolero reached the slum and wandering around suspiciously, some locals questioned them.
The locals suspected them of being child lifters after the men failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding their identities. Unsatisfied with their behaviour, the angry locals thrashed them blue and black.
However, all of them, except one managed to escape from the spot in their vehicle. The locals, after nabbing one man, tied him to a pole in the village and thrashed mercilessly, sources said.
After getting information, Koliari police reached the spot and rescued the youth.
Police released the youth after finding him mentally sick during their interrogation.
