Bhubaneswar: Mystery continues to shroud the death of senior scribe Navin Das’s son Manish Anurag as the statements of the three accused youths mismatch. The probing team is yet to identify the prime accused in the case with their four-day remand coming to an end Thursday, a source informed.

The three accused youths are Amrit Pritam Biswal of Rajnagar in Kendrapara, Dinesh Kumar Mohapatra alias Litu of Amalapada locality under Phulbani Town police limits and Mrutyunjay Mishra alias Munna of Peonpada in Kandhamal district.

According to the source, a team of Infocity police station officials have been carrying out marathon quizzing to extract information. The accused are being quizzed together face-to-face and individually as well, the source stated.

Sources stated that Amrit has been residing in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar and is quite acquainted with roads of the city. However, Dinesh and Mrutyunjay are new here and have little idea about the demography of the state capital.

The three accused are unable to name the spot where they indulged in a brawl before killing Manish Anurag as they were all under the influence of alcohol on the intervening night, the source added.

No eyewitness, if any, of the fatal incident has come forward so far to provide information to the probing police team. However, Infocity police have recorded the statement of a local resident who had seen the accused in wet clothes on the intervening night.

Recreation of the crime scene was previously planned which has been dropped for the time being. Police is awaiting the post-mortem, viscera and diatom reports, a senior official of the Infocity station said.

It is pertinent to mention, the accused trio had a scuffle with Manish Anurag outside South City bar at Bhagabanpur under Tamando police limits over payment of bill October 9, 2021. Later, Amrit, Dinesh and Mrutyunjay attacked Manish leading to his death. In an attempt to destroy the evidence, they dumped the body in a nearby pond.

A case was filed against the trio under Sections 364(A), 302, 201, 34 of IPC. Police had seized a car bearing registration number OD 02 X-9696, four mobile phones and apparel of the accused persons.
