Nabarangpur: A married woman was allegedly raped by a man on the pretext of providing her a LPG gas connection at Paraja Barangpadar panchayat under Tentulikhunti block in Nabarangpur district.
The matter came to light after the rape victim lodged a complaint with Tentulikhunti police.
The accused, who has been identified as Hara Jani, a panchayat samiti member, is absconding.
According to sources, the accused had promised the woman to help her get a BPL gas connection and called her to a guesthouse of Indravati project four days ago. The accused outraged her modesty, it was alleged.
Later, the villagers rushed to the guesthouse and rescued her.
The police have registered a case and conducted a medical examination of the victim.
