Jeypore: The administration Thursday sounded a high alert in undivided Koraput district in the wake of the observance of ‘martyrs’ week’ by Maoists from July 28.
Bus service between Jeypore and Malkangiri has been suspended while more than 45 government passenger vehicles have been kept off roads as a precautionary measure. Normal life has been severely affected after suspension of bus service in 15 routes under Jeypore zone.
Similarly, 20 buses connecting Malkangiri and four buses between Paralakhemundi and Phulbani won’t ply during the week.
The services of eight buses connecting Araku, Bhadrachalam and Parvatipuram of Andhra Pradesh, Gupteswar, Kashipur, Berhampur, Bhanjanagar and Bhubaneswar too have been cancelled till August 3, Regional Transport Office sources said.
On the other hand, the route of a passenger train between Kotavalasa and Kirandul has been diverted. Now, the train would now return from Jagadalpur instead of travelling up to Maoist-hit Kirandul, railway sources said.
Meanwhile, police have sealed all the border regions and intensified combing operations after issuing a high alert to all police stations in undivided Koraput.
People should not get scared by the Maoists’ call, assured top police officials. PNN
