Balasore: A villager thrashed his minor daughter and allegedly tried to burn her alive after she expressed doubts about good results from her examinationsSundayevening. The incident occurred at Jambhudiha village.
Luckily for the girl, neighbours alerted the police, who came in and rescued her. The accused was Shatrujit Mohanty. As per first information, Mohanty reached home after work and questioned his daughter about her performance at the exams. She said she was not sure of first grade as she found the questions for a couple of subjects tough to answer.
“In a fit of rage, he began thrashing her. He allegedly locked the girl in a room and sprinkled kerosene on her. The girl’s grandfather Anam Mohanty tried to stop him, but in vain,” as per the version of the locals. No police complaint has been lodged, but a police probe was on Monday.
