Bhubaneswar: A woman Monday lodged a complaint with Mancheswar police alleging that her mentally challenged daughter was raped and impregnated by her cousin brother.
The complainant said the accused, Bijaya Acharya, a resident of Kalarahanga near Patia, works as a priest in a Hanuman temple near his residence. He along with his wife visited his uncle’s (the complainant’s) residence on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan August 7, 2017. They had taken the girl with them, though her parents were initially reluctant to send her daughter with the accused.
Later, the accused declined to send the girl to her native place despite repeated information from her parents. However, a few days ago, the victim’s parents personally visited Bijaya’s house and brought her home.
Recently, the family members came to know about her pregnancy when she was admitted to a nearby hospital. The family members of the girl informed Vijaya’s elder brother about the incident who allegedly asked them to secretly terminate her pregnancy at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Police have started investigations into the allegations.
