Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: Light rain and thundershower will continue over the coastal pockets while the people of interior Orissa will witness dry weather in the next 24 hours, predicted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday.
“The recently weakened system over the Bay of Bengal has left moisture in the air, which will be rapidly absorbed by the continued flow of cold wave from the northern parts of the country. This will lead to a rapid dip in the night temperature from January 6,” said Sahu.
“However, the cold wave will again be interrupted around January 8 in view of an expected trough line that might trigger light to moderate rain and thundershower at most places of the state,” warned Sahu.
The Met officials have also recorded rainfall at a few parts of the state in the past 24 hours with the highest being at Titilagarh, 44 mm, followed by Bhawanipatna, 28mm.
The maximum temperatures remain under 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum remain around 19 degree Celsius in most parts of the state Sunday.
The weatherman further predicted cloudy skies for the capital city and adjoining areas with minimal chances of rain or thundershower in the next 24 hours. The humidity may remain as high as 95 per cent over the city Monday.
