Bhubaneswar, March 3: The India Meteorological Department Tuesday predicted light to moderate rain over coastal Orissa, issuing a warning of thunder squalls with hailstorm and gusty surface wind speeds reaching up to 70 kmph in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar district in the next 24 hours.
The Capital city witnessed a sudden downpour Tuesday afternoon while other parts of the state including Titilagarh received 4mm rainfall followed by 3mm in Dhenkanal in the past 24 hours. “The ongoing system will trigger light rainfall over Mayurbhanj and Keonjar districts apart from a few along the coast in the next 24 hours. However, the temperature will continue to rise in the next 24 to 48 hours,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
The weatherman further said the wind flow from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal has helped formation of a trough line over the state triggering the rainfall. The system is very active over adjoining parts of the state and lashed in some parts of Chhattisgarh.
The Capital city and adjoining areas have witnessed wind speed reaching up to 30 kmph and the condition may continue for the next 24 hours. The sky over the temple city may remain cloudy with possibility of rain and thundershowers Wednesday.
