Ministers fan out across districts to review measures

Bhubaneswar: Several ministers of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s Cabinet, including Deputy Chief Ministers Pravati Parida and KV Singh Deo, fanned out to the vulnerable districts to oversee the evacuation and relief measures aimed at ensuring public safety as cyclone Dana came hurtling towards the coast Thursday. Parida visited several areas in Puri district and reviewed the preparedness by holding discussions with local officials and people’s representatives. She also interacted with people in Kakatpur, Astaranga areas and asked them not to panic. She briefed them about the measures taken by the government to deal with the situation while urging them to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the state government.

Puri Collector Sidharth Shankar Swain said around 7,226 persons have been shifted to 162 cyclone shelters across the district. Similarly, SInghdeo visited Pattamundai, Rajnagar, and Pentha areas in Kendrapara district and took stock of the preparations on the ground. He held discussions with officials and inspected the shelter centres. He addressed local concerns, ensuring that all safety protocols and essential services were in place. He said the well-being of people by guaranteeing them with secure shelters, food supplies, and medical aid during the critical period remains the priority of the government. “The strength and unity of our community are truly inspiring, and together, we will rise above these challenges. Let’s continue to stand by one another with resilience and hope,” he said. Urging people to desist from panicking, Singh Deo said the government has taken all necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety. “Our dedicated teams are on high alert, and we have adequate resources in place to handle any situation,” he said.

Minister of Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture Suryabanshi Suraj visited Bhadrak to review the cyclone preparedness measures through administrative meetings, followed by a review at the Dhamra Port area. He visited several cyclone shelters in Guasol, Dhira Sahi, Nachipur, Bijayapatna, Karuna panchayat and Kuamara to oversee the arrangements for public safety, food supplies, drinking water, medical facilities and sanitation. He interacted with the shelter residents, advising them not to panic and assured them that the government would provide all necessary assistance and support to them.

He appealed to people not to panic and asked them to adhere to the administrative guidelines. Minister Bibhuti Bushan Jena visited Gopalpur, Markandi, Ramyapatna, Khalikhote, Subalia, Chatrapur, areas of Ganjam district and directed officials to be alert and active.
