Sambalpur: Burla inspector-in-charge (IIC) Wednesday filed a complaint against senior BJP leader and former minister Jayanarayan Mishra for allegedly misbehaving with police during the Hirakud visit of Union water resources and river development minister Uma Bharti. A case has been registered under Sections 353, 294, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Mishra, however, refuted the allegation and accused IIC Tofan Bag of misbehaving with him. He added that he will lodge a counter complaint and move the court if police did not accept his complaint.
However, Mishra fled the town, reports said.
According to sources, after the Union minister’s carcade and three departmental officials entered the gate of Hirakud dam, police closed the gate for security reasons. When Mishra along with his supporters reached the gate and asked police to open the gate, Bag, who was monitoring the security measures at the place, did not allow their entry to the prohibited area.
Angry over the issue, Mishra alighted from his car and abused the police using filthy language. As Bag asked him to refrain from behaving in that manner, Mishra hurled abuses at him. He also tried to manhandle the IIC. He was pacified after the intervention of BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari and other senior leaders present at the occasion. Even some of his supporters tried to break open the entry gate resulting in a scuffle between party workers and the police. The situation was brought under normalcy following discussions between the police and the party men
When contacted, Sambalpur superintendent of police Akhileswar Singh termed the behaviour by a senior political leader as unfortunate. All the accused involved in the case would be arrested, he added. PNN
